David and Samson
David Vernon is a Christian author, pastor, and Bible teacher with a lifelong passion for Scripture and spiritual growth. The son of a pastor, he developed a deep appreciation for God’s Word early in life.
A Lifetime of Ministry and Learning
David earned a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Baylor University and later a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Seminary. He is also an Honorary Alumnus of Truett Seminary.
For over twenty-five years, David faithfully served in the pastorate throughout southwest Texas. During those years, he taught Scripture, counseled individuals and families, and helped people grow in their understanding of God’s truth.
A Passion for Biblical Stories
After many years in the Christian ministry, David noticed that often, certain biblical figures were misunderstood or overlooked entirely. Samson, in particular, stood out as someone whose story was frequently reduced to stereotypes rather than examined through the full context of Scripture. If Samson was mentioned in a sermon, the focus almost always centered on his failures rather than on his faith or on God’s grace at work in his life. This realization eventually led David to write Lord Remember Me: A Fresh Look at the Life of Samson.
Life Beyond Ministry
David worked in the firearms industry in Austin, Texas, for sixteen years before retiring early this year. He and his wife, Susanna, have two grown children and one grandchild.
In addition to writing and Bible study, David enjoys gardening, reloading, and singing with The Singing Men of Texas – South.
